I voted early today (Oct. 26) as I always do because of the uncertainty of my schedule. It was possible because of the good people who give their time to work at the polling sites. I thank all of them.
I found the access to early voting sites to be some what like a scavenger hunt. I first went to Buda City Hall, where a vote early sign was on the door. I was told that it was not on the polling place schedule today and was provided with a guide to hunt one down. I found that I would have to go to Dripping Springs or San Marcos to vote today. Since I have the resources: transportation, money for fuel, physical abilities, mental dexterity, determination to assure my vote counted, and the knowing that schedule conflicts required this task be completed today. I went and voted.
I could not help but note that there could be a more equitable allocation of sites, even it was only one voting machine in the not so rural areas. For early voting access for the whole 12 days. It was obvious to me that the voters of San Marcos had disproportional opportunities in this matter. Too late this year, but perhaps by next time the Hays County powers that be could make improvements to improve access to all voters in the county.
