The Lehman High School Naval JROTC stood for an Annual Military Inspection by a visiting officer for the first time and passed the review.

In its third year, the program is now 100 students strong under the direction of Lt. Cmdr. John K. Berry and Master Chief David Farrar. The group passed a milestone last month when it stood for the inspection by Cmdr. Mike Hale who was “very complimentary on the program and the cadets,” Berry said.

The cadets drilled in review for the commander and an audience that included several local war veterans. Then cadet staff briefed Hale on their jobs.

The occasion was made more special by the turnout of onlookers.

“It makes all the difference in the world to have someone watching as you demonstrate what you have worked so hard to complete, as the kids did for the AMI today,” Berry said.

The inspection was “a culmination of a lot of hard work by a lot of different cadets, and all that hard work was on display today as all the pieces came together,” he said.

The cadets are scheduled to march in a Veterans Day parade on Saturday, Nov. 6 as well as appear at Veterans Day events at Chapa Middle School and Lehman. They will participate in a drill meet in San Antonio in December.
