Turkeys tackle hunger again
Students all across Hays CISD are joining the annual “Turkeys Tackling Hunger” campaign of the Hays County Food Bank to help give area families a complete Thanksgiving meal. The campus campaigns vary – from penny drives to feather sales to can donations – but the goal of providing those Thanksgiving meals is the same. Last year the food bank provided 1,576 Hays County families that meal and the need is greater this year. For more information on how you can help, contact your campus.

Tobias show breaks records
Tobias Elementary’s “Under the Big Top!” extravaganza proved a huge success with a record-breaking turnout enjoying the clownin’ around throughout the evening. Texas State University gymnastics students “flew through the air with the greatest of ease,” youngsters walked tightropes and great beasts could be seen in the hallways. Explorer librarian Karen Kessel remarked, “Having family events such as this bridges the chasm between home and school in a positive way.”
Patterson class votes
Barton Middle School teacher Ray Patterson’s history classes participated in the National Mock Election just prior to last week’s mid-term elections. The specific race of interest was the Texas governor’s contest pitting incumbent Rick Perry against challenger Bill White. Patterson’s class results mirrored the eventual statewide results, with Perry pulling 294 votes and White getting 223.
Thames students ‘Read Now’
Science Hall Elementary students in teacher Susan Thames’ class recently participated in “Read Now!” with singing star Taylor Swift. The students connected with the singer through a live telecast in which Swift spoke of the importance of reading and sang her newest song. Thames reports the popular star said she fell in love with poetry as a second-grader and today writes songs about her life. “I believe life is much more colorful when you read up on it,” she said.
