Stars host open house
Fuentes Elementary School hosts its open house this Thursday, Sept. 23, at 6 p.m. Special teams will sell hamburger dinners to benefit PE, Art, Music and Enrichment classes beginning at 5:30 p.m.. Families are invited to visit classrooms to see their “Stars” progress. Teachers will be previewing curricular activities and topics for the year, a PTA booth will encourage membership and information will be offered on the Fuentes “Magic Plant” fundraiser supporting the Eco-School Initiative.
NES Appleseed Parade Friday
Negley Elementary School’s kindergarten students cap off their Johnny Appleseed Day celebration this Friday, Sep. 24, with a 2 p.m. parade. The special day is celebrated nationwide to note the 1776 birthdate of John Chapman, the man who earned the nickname spreading apple seeds and seedlings across the United States in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Navigator kindergarten students spend the day sorting, measuring and weighing apples, as well as making and eating applesauce in classrooms.
Lehman hosts parent night
Lehman High School hosts Parent Night next Monday, Sept. 27, 6:30 p.m., for parents of 9th, 10th and 11th-graders. Counselors will discuss important grade level requirements and parents will be provided information on class requirements.
First Listening Session set
Next Tuesday, Sept. 28, 6:30-8 p.m. at Kyle Elementary’s Kimbro Building, Hays CISD Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Lyon and members of the school board host the first in what will be a series of public meetings to listen to community members’ issues and concerns. The participants will also use the informal setting to talk briefly about the state of the district. Current plans are for such meetings to be held on a roughly monthly schedule. Translators will be in attendance.
College Fair for Seniors
Seniors of all three HCISD high schools are invited to a college fair Thursday, Sept. 30, at Lehman High Scool from 1-3 p.m. More than 30 Texas colleges and universities will be represented, as well as Austin Community College and the Air Force Academy, all offering information on post-secondary opportunities. Seniors should visit their counseling centers for information. Transportation will be provided.
Hawk Festival needs readers
Hemphill Elementary School’s 10th Annual Story Book Festival needs help. Members of the community are solicited to demonstrate their love of reading and encourage students to read through festival participation. The Friday, Oct. 29, event features a host of community volunteers, many dressed as storybook characters, reading to students and explaining why reading is important. District offers parent portal
Parents of local school district students have a new tool, Parent Self Serve (PSS), a computer portal to monitor their children’s progress. The program includes assignments, progress reports, and report card grades and attendance, as well as “alerts” on absences or when the student’s grade falls below a parent-determined point. The secure access link requires internet access, a confidential login ID and a password. The secure link is available at www.hayscisd.net and registration is open now. Completed registration forms should be brought to the student’s campus. Call your individual campus for more information.
It’s Parent-Teacher Time
All thirteen Hays CISD elementary schools are encouraging parents to make an appointment with their students’ teachers for a personal conference on Monday, Oct. 11. Students are off for the Columbus Day holiday that day and all middle school and high school faculty members have staff development.
Simon library checkouts high
Simon Middle School’s ravenous Wolverine readers had already recorded 2,500 library checkouts by the end of the school year’s first three weeks, up 600 checkouts from last year’s three-week mark
Lobo Project Graduation Meeting
All supporters of the Lehman High School senior class are invited to attend a meeting of the LHS 2011 Project Graduation group next Monday, Sept. 27, 6:30 p.m., in the Lehman cafeteria. All seniors and their parents are especially invited to attend the important gathering.
