The tradition continues…the Buda Fire Department is once again hosting its annual fundraiser on Friday and Saturday, October 1-2 at Buda City Park. This will be the 53rd event for the fire department. There will be firefighter challenges, cook-offs, food, music, children’s activities and just a really good time for all.

Also for your weekend entertainment, Buda’s Fine Art Festival kicks off Friday evening from 7 until 10 p.m. with an art premier. Jazz music by Liz Morphis, private showings, wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres all under the big white tent on the greenbelt in downtown Buda. Cost is $15 at the door.
Continuing on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., the Art Festival will feature over 50 artists, live music, and children’s art area all in the greenbelt area. Members of the Onion Creek Senior Citizens will sell bottled water and peach tea at a booth just outside the white tent. Beautiful quilts will be on display at Buda City Hall by the Buda Bees, the quilting ladies of the Onion Creek Senior Citizens Center. Admission is free on Sat. and Sun.

Buda author, Richard R. Salassi, will be at the Buda Library on Friday, Oct. 1 from 3 until 4:30 p.m. to sign copies of his book “Three Tenors and One Squawky Contralto.”

More activities for downtown Buda on “First Thursday” on Oct. 7, which will feature “girls night out.” Businesses will offer in-house specials along with refreshments. Silent auctions will be at various shops with the proceeds benefitting the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation. Join your friends and neighbors in the downtown activities from 5 until 9 p.m.

The Downtown Buda Farmers Market will open on Thursday, Oct. 7 from 2 until 6 p.m. on Main Street across from the Buda Library. After the 7th, the market will be open every Saturday in October and November from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and on the first Thursday of the month from 2-6 p.m. on South Main Street across from Garcia’s Restaurant. Hundreds of pumpkins of every size and shape are available for sale at the corner of Main and Elm in downtown Buda. The annual Pumpkin Patch is a delightful event for our area children, which is sponsored by the men’s group from the Buda United Methodist Church.
Congratulations to Good Shepherd Ministries Church as they celebrate their 25th year. There will be a dinner banquet on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m. and special services on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 10:45 a.m., followed by a lunch at the church located at 401 RR 967 in Buda.

Flu shots will be available Thursday, Oct. 14, from 9:30 until 11 a.m. at the Onion Creek Senior Citizens Center in Buda. Cost is $20 unless you have your Medicare, part B card and then there is no cost. A big “thank you” to Ann Russell with the Buda HEB Pharmacy for providing this service to the center.

On Sunday, Oct. 17, walkers will gather at the Hays YMCA at the Buda Sportsplex for the 1st Buda/Kyle CROP Walk. Registration starts at 1:30 p.m. with the walk beginning at 2 p.m. Walkers are now busy collecting donations to support local and global hunger relief organizations but still need more walkers to join. If interested, contact Kate Shaw, of the Hays County Food Bank at 512-392-8300 or visit www.cropwalk.org/budatx. Hays County Food Bank will be sharing their proceeds with the Buda Food Pantry, which is located on the grounds of Buda United Methodist Church. This local pantry serves the residents of Buda and Kyle through two weekly food distributions. They provide non-perishable and fresh food to more than 200 families each month.

Rick and Jeanette Matthews have just returned home from a fabulous Alaska cruise. The trip was in celebration of the couple’s 40th wedding anniversary.

Mary Sue and Sam Upton are first time grandparents with the birth of granddaughter, Ava Sue Michalk. The little miss was born on July 14, 2010, with a birth weight of six pounds, six ounces.
