Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Phillip J. Ford will be the keynote speaker at a Sept. 11 memorial luncheon hosted by CTMC Hospice Care on Thursday, Sept. 9 at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins St. Doors for the luncheon will open at 11:30 a.m.
Before his retirement in July 2000, Ford served as Deputy Commander in Chief of the U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. During that time, Ford was responsible for all U.S. Air Force and Navy strategic nuclear forces supporting the national security objective of strategic deterrence.
In March 2001, Ford was appointed General Manager and CEO of the Brazos River Authority. Born and raised in Fort Worth, Ford received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Arlington State University in 1965. He went on to receive a master’s degree from Troy State University in 1978.
His flying assignments include line, instructor, and standardization and evaluation positions in bomber and reconnaissance units. The general is a command pilot with more than 4,200 flying hours.
Throughout his military career, Ford has been honored with nine major awards including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with oak leaf cluster, Aerial Achievement Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster.
