Just in its second year, Hays CISD’s Community Education program is currently featuring more than 20 courses in eight subject areas for local residents. The classes range from basic cake decorating to the cardio blasts of Zumba to growing cool season vegetables to babysitting bootcamp.
The program is guided by Gina Garcia-Vega and overseen by Angie Mendez, the district’s director of development, community partnerships and community education.
“We have made new partners and continue to pursue others who have the same interest in keeping education alive and vibrant in the community. We have also leaned that by offering one or two-day classes and keeping our fees affordable, we have better participation,” Mendez said.
To browse the classes electronically and to register online (the preferred method), visit http://hayscisd.revtrak.net. The catalog is available at Kyle and Buda chambers of commerce, Kyle and Buda public libraries and Hays CISD Central Office. Walk-in registration is also available by appointment. Call Mendez at 512-268-2141, ext. 6078.
Sites for the community education classes include local school campuses, HCISD Central Office and Lowe’s Home Improvement Center.
The program “will always look for interesting and creative ideas for courses,” according to Mendez and Garcia-Vega. For information on offering a class, see www.hayscisd.net/communityed.
