San Marcos man gets hard time for drugs, other charges
A San Marcos drug dealer convicted of five felonies involving drugs, family violence and unlawful firearm possession charges was sentenced to 65 years in prison, the Hays County District Attorney’s Office announced on Monday.
James Christopher Miranda, 28, pled guilty to two felony charges of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, for which he received 30 years in prison. He also pled guilty to two felony charges of family assault, getting 15 years in prison, the DA’s office says.
A Hays County jury then convicted Miranda on the felony charge of unlawful possession of a firearm, for which he received another 20 years in prison. All sentences will run concurrently, officials say.
In its investigation, the Hays County Narcotics Task Force discovered that Miranda was peddling narcotics from various motel rooms and that he was associated with another drug dealer, Oscar Capetillo Lopez, who was sentenced by a jury to 80 years in prison this month for possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, officials say.
The severe punishment for Miranda’s charges was enhanced due to his prior convictions for escape and injury to a child and his two prior convictions for family assault, officials say.
Confused, naked girl shows up at Buda gas station
A confused 23-year-old woman who was naked from the waist down called police from a payphone at the Chevron gas station in Buda after a night of partying early Thursday, authorities say.
When deputies arrived on scene around 5:55 a.m., the woman said that she was either led or pushed out of a vehicle on IH-35 and walked for “considerable time” to the gas station, located along the interstate, a Hays County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said.
The woman said that she was drinking with friends at an Austin bar and faintly recalled being thrown out of a vehicle half-naked. She did not claim that she was sexually assaulted but authorities still took her to the hospital for testing, the spokesperson said.
The case has been forwarded to the sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division.
