H. Wallace (Wally) Bludworth, 86, of Kyle, died Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Seton Medical Center Hays due to complications resulting from a fall. He was born February 26, 1924 in Kingsville, TX to Henry W. and Ruth Craig Bludworth.

Following his freshman year at A&I University in Kingsville, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps and became a B-24 pilot. He flew 35 missions over Germany, being shot down once, losing an engine more than once and sustaining damage to his airplane repeatedly.

After his discharge he attended the University of Texas in Austin, graduating in 1948 with a degree in chemical engineering. His career was spent primarily in the oil and gas industry.

Although he received numerous military medals and citations he was most gratified to learn in January, 2009 that, unbeknownst to him, he had been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on December 1, 1945. Its receipt and accompanying publicity were highlights of his life.

Since moving to Kyle five years ago, he was very active in civic and senior activities.

His parents, brother, Richard P. Bludworth; sister, Ann Bludworth Owen and his son Rick predeceased him. Wife, Norlene Razak Bludworth; sons Kerry and Ken of Lake Mary, FL; daughter, Rosalie Wright of Weimar, CA; three granddaughters; one grandson and two great-grandsons survive him.

He will be interred in the family plot in Chamberlain Cemetery, Kingsville, TX at a later date. A memorial observance is pending.
