Now that the days are getting shorter and the holidays nearer, your thoughts may be turning to finances. As you consider what to do before Dec. 31 to improve your tax situation, you might also consider what you could do to improve other people’s tax situation. We at the Kyle Library have an idea, and the best part is that it doesn’t cost any money. You can volunteer to help other people prepare their tax returns.
For the ninth year, the Kyle Library will partner with the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, better known as VITA. This program offers free tax help to low-income people who need help preparing their tax returns. The Kyle Library also will provide free electronic filing.
The library needs volunteers to help in a variety of capacities: clerical, tax preparation, quality review and interpretation. People who can speak both Spanish and English are especially needed. Volunteers receive free tax training through an online program, and the VITA coordinator is available for additional consulting.
Volunteers should be available from 10:00-2:00 on Saturdays from early February through mid-April. If you are interested in learning more about tax preparation and want to be of service to others, contact the Kyle Library by signing up in person, calling 512-268-7411, or emailing [email protected].
Please catch the spirit of the holiday season early and volunteer to help during tax season at the Kyle Library.
