Hays County walked away with almost $9 million in federal stimulus funds for three transportation projects, following a meeting of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Monday night.
CAMPO allocated about $29 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act this week to projects in Hays, Travis and Williamson counties.
The Buda truck bypass took the biggest slice of the pie, receiving $7.2 million for an overpass at IH-35. Currently, a temporary two-lane spur tees into the IH-35 access road just north of the old Cement Plant Road, and trucks headed north on the interstate must detour about four miles.
Buda City Manager Kenneth Williams said the road would benefit the city in mobility, safety and economic development.
Hays County also received $1.7 million for a center turn lane on RR 12 between Pioneer Trail and San Marcos Baptist Academy. The City of Kyle will get $60,000 for striping and bicycle lanes on Spring Branch Road.
However, a request for funding for safety improvements on SH 21 did not make the cut.
The city of Buda had already received about $9 million in stimulus funds allocated through the Texas Department of Transportation for improvements to the overpass at IH-35 and Main Street.
