The pilot of a crop-duster helicopter that crashed Friday afternoon in a field northeast of San Marcos has been medically discharged, according to a Brackenridge Hospital official.
Jimmie Barnhill, 66, of Wharton, Texas, was sent to Brackenridge in Austin after he received non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
Barnhill was attempting to land the helicopter, similar to one that caught fire a week ago in the same area, when the rotor clipped a telephone wire and went down near Yarrington and Harris Hill Roads, said Department of Public Safety spokesperson Aidee Trottier.
On May 30, a Wimberley man received severe burns to his neck, chest, arms and face as he refueled his crop-duster in a field near Highway 21.
Tony Soderstrom, 43, was inside the cockpit when the fuel caught fire and engulfed his helicopter. As of Monday, Soderstrom has been upgraded to stable condition, according to an official from the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
