KYLE — Bryan Langley has been named the sole candidate for the position of Kyle city manager. City council voted unanimously in a special meeting on Friday, April 13 to approve Langley for the position following a strenous search involving 69 candidates.

“Very rarely is this council in unanimous agreement, but that is what happened today,” said council member Bear Heiser following the vote. “With that, it’s a very exciting day for the future of this city.”

The process, Langley said, has been arduous, as he was first contacted by a recruitment firm in February regarding the position.

“After discussing the opportunity more fully and completing a great deal of research, I knew the position would be a great match for my skill sets and interests,” he said, noting that he was interviewed twice by the recruitment firm, Affion, and asked to provide more information about his background. “Last week, I was notified that I would be a finalist for the position and the city held interviews on Thursday and Friday. Additionally, I was also asked to provide a presentation to the council regarding my transition plans.”

It wasn’t until after the interviews and special meeting held by the council on Friday that Langley got the call he’d been hoping for.

“Following the interviews [Friday], I was notified by the recruiter that the city wanted to enter into contract negotiations,” he said. “I am thrilled with being selected for the position and my family looks forward to relocating to Kyle in the next few weeks.”

Langley has spent the past 27 years working in various local government roles. He began his career in the city of Dallas and also worked for the cities of Addison and Denton. His most recent position was city manager for the city of Burleson — a city comparable in size to Kyle. He has held that position since April 2019.

“Over the course of my career, I have had the opportunity to manage a number of large capital projects and I have also worked in fast-growing environments,” Langley said. “Additionally, I previously served as the [chief financial officer] for the city of Denton and I have a great deal of financial management experience over the course of my career. Kyle is growing very rapidly and I believe my financial experience will be an ideal match for the needs of the community.”

Langley added that the city manager position is truly an exciting opportunity.

“The city has experienced tremendous growth over the past few years and there will likely be significant economic development for years to come. With this growth there will be countless opportunities to reinvent processes, evaluate services and develop teams,” he said. “The chance to be a part of such a dynamic community is very appealing to me. My experience with building professional teams, completing significant projects and modernizing business practices will be beneficial to the community as we continue to grow and develop.”

Following contract negotiations and signing, Langley will likely begin as the new city manager within 30 days.
