HAYS COUNTY — Six graduating seniors were named winners of the Hays County Local Health Department (HCLHD) essay competition.
Graduating seniors from six area public high schools were eligible to submit an essay on the topic of their experience with and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Between January 1 and March 15, more than 50 essays were submitted. One student from each eligible high school in Hays County was chosen as the winner and awarded a Mac Book Air laptop. The list of winners is below.
At Hays County Commissioners Court, Matthew Gonzales, Program Manager, Health Equity and Community Engagement, congratulated the essay winners and presented them with their prizes.
“We are thrilled at the number of essays submitted for this contest,” said Matthew Gonzales, program manager, at the April 25 Hays County Commissioners Court meeting. “And we are so happy to provide the six winners with their awards and wish them all the best in the future.”
After a review of each essay by the competition committee, the following students are recognized as the winners of the public health essay competition:

Robert Farrell, Johnson High School
Natalie Leal, San Marcos High School
Dorothy Pierre, Lehman High School
Ella Revill, Dripping Springs High School
Owen Tippett, Hays High School
