KYLE — Mayoral incumbent Travis Mitchell announced his intentions to run for a third and final term as mayor of the city of Kyle on Friday, June 9.

This week marks seven years of service on the city council, Mitchell said, noting, “During that time, I have worked closely with 18 council members, two city managers and have relentlessly pursued the goal of helping our community develop intentionally and with the future in mind.”

As Kyle grows, the candidate stressed consistency in leadership.

“As we move forward, it is vital for our community to maintain steady leadership and a clear vision,” Mitchell said in his release.

The incumbent cited specific goals for his prospective third term, including the following:

• Maintain voter-approved historic commitment to reconstruct eight major roads in the city, including Stagecoach, Marketplace, Bunton, Bebee, Windy Hill, Center Street, Kohlers underpass to Seton and Kyle Parkway extension to Lehman.

• Construct voter-approved regional Sportsplex in partnership with Hays County.

• Utilize developer funds and special district financing to complete the new Goforth Road from 150 at Post Oak south to Yarrington and I-35.

• Utilize special district funds to construct major intersection and pedestrian improvements along Kohlers Crossing, specifically at Sanders, Benner, Cromwell and Kyle Crossing.

• Expand parks system by adding at least one new major Eastside park.

• Expand and further develop our natural trails and the Vybe trail, which is the interconnected multi-modal plan for resident mobility throughout the community.

• Develop a viable path to partner with the private sector to bring new businesses and restaurants to downtown Kyle.

Finally, he invited the community to his campaign kick-off event, which will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, at the Plum Creek banquet hall at the golf course. The event is free and food will be provided by Texas Pie Company.

The primary purpose of the event, according to Mitchell, is “to meet residents in the community, as well as elaborate on how these plans fit together,” he said. “You do not have to make a contribution. I ask only that you come, enjoy yourself and spend dinner with me dreaming about how to make Kyle stronger as we grow.”

“It has been an honor of a lifetime to serve the city of Kyle since 2016,” Mitchell continued. “I am asking for your support as I work to complete these important priorities for our city.”
