HAYS COUNTY — Hays CISD is adding more school resource officers (SRO) to the district.
During the consent agenda portion of its July 24 meeting, the Hays CISD Board of Trustees approved an interlocal agreement between the district and Hays County to provide three additional full-time SROs.
This would increase the number of officers in the district to 15, with 12 deputies at secondary campuses and three at elementary campuses.
According to agenda documents, the schools currently staffed with full-time deputies include:
• Two deputies who divide their time between Hays High School and Live Oak Academy
• Two deputies assigned to Johnson High School
• Two deputies assigned to Lehman High School
• One deputy assigned to Barton Middle School
• One deputy assigned to Chapa Middle School
• One deputy assigned to McCormick Middle School
• One deputy assigned to Simon Middle School
• One deputy assigned to Wallace Middle School
• One deputy who divides their time between Dahlstrom Middle School and the Impact Alternative Education Program facility
Hays CISD will pay an additional $311,954 for the three SROs from the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, totaling $1,409,226 in costs.
