WIMBERLEY — Amy Bennett moved to Wimberley in May 2023 with the aspiration to start up her private practice, focused on apothecary and holistic medicine, after taking a break to focus on raising her son. Only two months later, Apothecary 222, located at 12111 Ranch Road 12, Suite 115, held its grand opening on July 29.

Bennett has a background of 20 years in bodywork therapy in Denver, Colorado, where she owned a private practice that specialized in bodywork therapy, vaginal steaming and holistic and herbal remedies. A few years later, she restarted her practice as a mobile clinic; though, she quickly realized that many clients were unable to fully relax in their homes for various reasons, such as children running around, pets barking or having partners working there.

“I wanted to just provide a space that was super relaxing and really offer more than just a massage,” explained Bennett. “If someone comes through the door for bodywork, we get to talk about maybe some lifestyle changes that they could make in order to feel better on different levels. Now, I have some space where I can provide some retail to get them going on whatever health journey they’re on.”

Thus, the weeks-long project ensued. According to Bennett, the lot purchased was quite the fixer-upper, due to the 2015 Wimberley flood. From painting walls to redoing a concrete floor, she completed the renovations herself.

“I really had to give it a full facelift in order to feel comfortable seeing anybody in the space. I didn’t really know what I was doing. I had to consult YouTube a lot and teach myself,” said Bennett.

The name, Apothecary 222, combines the title of Bennett along with angel numbers.

“[The] number 222 is a number that I feel has been guiding me personally for several years now,” she said. “Doing some research, I learned that seeing the number 222 is a message from your guides telling you that you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be ... Ultimately, I just want people to know when they come through my doors that they’re in the right place at the right time.”

Bennett described her business as a “one-woman-show,” so there are only approximately 15 slots a month for her service, which she hopes to eventually fill. Bodywork sessions are two hours long and cost $222.

Natural soaps, nontoxic candles, organic period care, net pots and even handmade vaginal steamer chairs, that run 50% below normal retail price, are available. The storefront not only provides physical relaxation through bodywork, but it also has more than 50 medicinal herbs available for purchase. Clients can buy various botanical products to create remedies for a cold, their own skincare or maybe a small apothecary within their own home.

“I was doing a little bit of research in the area when I was setting everything up and realized that there’s really not a lot of options between Austin and San Antonio in the Hill Country for folks to go buy these herbs that they can get creative with,” Bennett said.

Some examples are mugwort for those having trouble sleeping or lemon balm, which is a part of the mint family, for digestion and cooling, explained Bennett. Although she is unable to grow the herbs in-house yet, it is a goal in the future. She is also planning monthly courses to teach the community how to make their own items, as well as natural skincare spa parties.

“I would love to fill my schedule with people who are in need of specific bodywork sessions that are very customized,” said Bennett.
