Eight Dripping Springs High School cross country runners qualified for the Region IV-6A Meet after the girls team placed second, and Wes Anderson qualified individually, at the District 26-6A Championship on Thursday, Oct. 12 at Walter E. Long Park in Austin.
Dripping Springs totaled 68 points in the girls race, led by Lucy Fredenburg with a fourth-place finish with a time of 19:02. Sofia Vences also recorded a top-10 finish with a time of 19:28 for ninth place. Alexa Velasco (20:11), Mia Simons (20:13) and Madison Johnson (20:23) rounded out the team scorers for the Tigers.
Austin Bowie snuck past Dripping Springs for the team title, with its top five runners placing in the top 20. Lake Travis also finished with 68 points, but Dripping Springs held the upper hand in the tiebreaker with its No. 6 runner, Laurel Hoskovec (20:30), finishing well ahead of Lake Travis’ No. 6 runner, by 71 seconds. Rylea Bernhard (21:31) was the seventh finisher for the Tigers.
The top three teams will compete at the Region IV-6A Meet on Tuesday, Oct. 24 in Corpus Christi.
For the boys, Anderson became Dripping Springs' first male runner to qualify for the regional meet since 2021 after clocking at 15:53 to place sixth in the field of 63 runners. Dripping Springs boys placed sixth as a team, with Anderson being joined by scorers Ramsey Zogaib (17:14), Abel Silverman (17:18), Landon Andrews (17:20) and Gus Caddell (17:21). Austin Bowie, Westlake and Lake Travis were the top three teams on the boys side.
