WIMBERLEY — A little kindness can go a long way. For Sky Vaughan, a 9-year-old local entrepreneur, her daily mission for baking cookies is to brighten people’s day and spread joy across the city of Wimberley.
Sky started her business, proudly named Sky’s Sweet Deliveries, as a treat delivery service in the summer of 2023, with the belief that every day should feel like Valentine’s Day — filled with love and treats. Whether it’s for family members, friends or self-love, the goal of her business is to make every moment a little sweeter.
“The thing I love about baking is that it really makes me feel like I will bring a smile to somebody’s face, either if it’s my customers or just my family, when we are baking cookies,” Sky said.
The “Yum-Yum, Yay! Bags” allow for the customers to choose from three ($5), six ($10) or 12 ($18) cookies of choice and to be delivered anywhere in Wimberley. Sky’s favorite cookies on the menu are hot chocolate crinkle and her grandmother’s snickerdoodle recipe. Those who do not live in Wimberley, but still want to make an order, can have the cookies shipped to them for an additional charge. Deliveries are made every other weekend.
To add a personal touch, customers can select the option to add a free customizable “Kindness Card” to send a special message with their sweet surprise.
Along with spreading kindness to those who are ordering cookies, Sky said that her business donates 10% of the proceeds to various local charities: “Last month was [Wimberley Adoption Group] and this month is the Wounded Warrior Project. Next month, we are thinking about the Crisis Bread Basket.”
Sky received her training by attending Start-Up Kid's Club two years ago. Over the course of baking the treats alongside her family, she feels like she has accomplished something for being so young.
As for her peers who are inspired to start their own business, Sky encourages them to not shy away from asking for help.
“You need a team that can help you through the process and to help you through all of the steps,” she said. “And then, when you feel like you’re comfortable doing it, maybe you still need a little help doing it, but you just have to believe that you can do it. Even through the hard times, just stay positive.”
Reagan Vaughan, Sky’s mother, said that it’s been a joy to work alongside her daughter, as she has watched her develop a passion for the business.
“It's a lot of fun. It gives us a lot of pride to see her doing something that she's so passionate about. It makes us proud to see how responsible she is in starting this up. It gives us a lot of hope for the drive she's going to have in the future,” she explained. “But we just want to make sure that it's something she enjoys [and] not something that creates too much stress on her, so we're glad that it was something like baking, which she's always enjoyed doing.”
The cookie flavors available are chocolate chip, chocolate chip with walnut, hot chocolate crinkle, snickerdoodle, Mexican Wedding and sugar.
While Sky’s Sweet Deliveries currently only has cookies for sale, Sky is determined and optimistic to have more products in the future.
