SAN MARCOS — On March 4, 453rd District Court Judge Sherri Tibbe signed a motion to dismiss a capital murder charge for Larry Simon Jr., 50, due to “other; for further investigation.”
Initially, a jury trial was scheduled for March 11 for the dual murders of James Wright, 45, and Tina Combs, 44, which occurred in 2015.
On June 25, 2015, the Kyle Police Department responded to a welfare call on Sledge Street after Wright’s father had failed to contact his son for multiple days. Upon arriving, a foul smell was noted. Officers were able to enter the home, where they discovered the deceased bodies of Wright and Combs, who both suffered gunshot and knife wounds.
During the investigation, Simon, who sported a black eye, arrived on scene, stating that he was a friend of Wright and was coming to check on him. Several interviews and investigations led to the knowledge that Simon was dishonest on his whereabouts during the homicide, as well as the admission that items of Wright had been pawned.
“Simon also stated to [the officer] that since [they] have been talking, he started wondering if he did do “this” [murdering Wright and Combs],” read the affidavit.
In early 2021, a witness told officers that Simon had murdered the two and that he had told the witness details of what occurred: “The witness provided [the officer] with details about the murders Simon had given him/her that were consistent with the evidence known to [the officer] that have not been released to the public.”
Simon was arrested on Feb. 1, 2021, for the capital murder of multiple persons.
Although the case has been dismissed, because it was “for further investigation,” it is possible that it could be brought back.
As of the time of publication, Hays County Jail records have not listed the release of Simon.
