KYLE — The city of Kyle hosted two open houses, held at Kyle city hall and Lehman High School, on June 6 to allow community members to give feedback on the Sidewalk Master Plan.

According to the plan, the city aims to focus on the existing sidewalk system, identify gaps and suggest where to prioritize future connections. The project is in the early stages and the city is currently collecting data from public comments, previous plans and site visits to create an analysis.

Residents were able to write down ideas and concerns on posterboard, as well as use stickers to choose an answer for several questions. The latter was posed as “A or B,” “A or C,” etc., with each letter having a corresponding characteristic, such as major roads or neighborhood streets. It was described as “impossible to understand” by one attendee. Approximately halfway through the first event, building sidewalks downtown and in neighborhoods were listed as the most prioritized by attendees compared to major roads and open spaces.

Community members also voted that completing missing gaps between existing sidewalks was a priority.

Online, there is an interactive map, which has the ability for residents to comment as a desired route, a desired destination, safety concern or add a general comment on specific areas within the city anonymously.

On Burleson Street in downtown, one comment read that it is appreciated that “there’s currently a well-maintained, well-lit and used sidewalk that connects downtown to the shopping center, where the Kohls [and] Target are located.”

“This intersection has no pedestrian walkways … With the opening of [the] new elementary, we need safe sidewalks all the way to Arroyo Ranch,” said a concerned resident of the intersection of Old Stagecoach Road and Veterans Drive.

One individual also requested sidewalks along the east side of Bebee Road as it is a “very busy area with numerous businesses. Many people [are] walking or riding bikes in the street.”

To review and add feedback, residents can visit bit.ly/3XeY9M7 through June 30.
