COLLEGE STATION — Three fires occurred March 4-6 in several areas of Hays County.

According to Kiley Moran, Texas A&M Forest Service public information officer, the causes of the fires are still being investigated. At the time of two of the fires, a Red Flag Warning had been issued by the National Weather Service, which covered all of South-Central Texas from 8 a.m. through 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 4.

The first wildfire was called in at approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, in the Onion Creek area of Buda. It burned an estimated 190 acres before being 100% contained March 6. As of 8 p.m. March 10, the fire is marked as controlled and out.

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, another wildfire appeared in the Longhorn Trail area on the Northwest side of Wimberley at approximately 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5. It was marked at 100% containment at 3 p.m. March 6 after burning approximately four acres, but has yet to be marked as controlled and out.

As previously reported by the Hays Free Press, the wildfire that occurred near Engelke Road in Kyle was controlled and out at approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 4. The nearly 11-acre fire prompted a temporary evacuation notice, which was lifted at 8:02 p.m. the same day.

According to Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra, there have been no more reports of wildfires in the area and Hays County is under a burn ban until March 12.
