DRIPPING SPRINGS — The Dripping Springs Tigers baseball team swept the Bowie High School Bulldogs 2-1 at its Friday, March 28, game, after scoring early with one run in the bottom of the first inning.
Following that, the Bulldogs answered with one run in the top of the second inning. Both teams threatened with runners on base, but were unable to score for four innings.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Bulldogs left two runners stranded and they were unable to score and, in the bottom of that same inning, the Tigers had two runners on base and the Bulldogs intentionally walked Taylor Tracey. With this walk of Tracey, the bases were loaded.
Tiger Jason Steele came to bat and hit a line drive single over the third baseman and the Tigers celebrated the win. Tigers starting pitcher, Tracey, went six innings; he had 13 strikeouts, gave up one run and allowed three hits.
After the game, coach Chris Payne was very pleased with both wins over a talented Bowie Bulldogs. He said the players had perseverance and gave congrats to Conner Helms, who started the bottom of the seventh inning with a scorcher over the third baseline, followed by a couple of great bunts to get the runners in scoring position.
Finally, Payne appreciated the community energy and support in a game like this.
The Tigers improved their record to 5-1 on the season and will travel to Lake Travis High School Friday, April 4.
