DRIPPING SPRINGS — Following executive session during its March 31 meeting, the Dripping Springs ISD Board of Trustees voted 7-0 to appoint Melissa Oliver as the new principal at Rooster Springs Elementary School.
“Welcome to Rooster, again,” said DSISD Board President Dr. Stefani Reinold.
Oliver has served as the assistant principal for Rooster Springs for the past two years. Before joining the district, she spent nine years at Kocurek Elementary School in Austin. She served as an instructional coach and academic interventionist for three years and spent six years in the classroom as a fifth grade English as Second Language (ESL) teacher. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from WGU Texas and a Master of Education Administration from Concordia University in Nebraska.
According to the district, she is known for her dedication and results-oriented approach and she has built a strong reputation for promoting academic excellence, cultivating a positive school culture and providing effective instructional leadership.
“We are thrilled to announce the promotion of Mrs. Oliver from assistant principal to principal of Rooster Springs,” said DSISD Superintendent Dr. Holly Morris-Kuentz in a news release. “Throughout her tenure, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership, a deep commitment to student growth, and a tireless dedication to the students, staff and Rooster Springs community. Mrs. Oliver is a strong leader and we are confident that her leadership will take the campus to new heights of success and achievement.”
Oliver will succeed Steve Novickas, who recently transitioned to open DSISD's newest elementary school, Wildwood Springs Elementary School. This campus is the sixth elementary school in the district, expected to open for the 2025-26 school year, located on the western edge of the Headwaters neighborhood off Mira Vista Drive and will accommodate 850 students in grades pre-K through fifth to relieve overcrowding at Dripping Springs Elementary and Walnut Springs Elementary.
