DRIPPING SPRINGS – Dripping Springs High School goalkeeper Annabelle Pittman, one of six freshmen on the roster, stopped all the Bowie High School Bulldogs’ shots on goal from hitting the net, except one at the 23:27 mark in the second half, but it was enough for the Lady Tigers to get the 2-1 district win Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Tiger Stadium.
“We’re starting to play as a team and finally getting into a groove,” head coach Bailee Perrine said before the game. “I’m excited we’re on this climb. The young girls are getting confident and playing like a true varsity group. We’re still working and haven’t peaked yet.”
Both goals for Dripping Springs (8-6-4 overall; 5-4-1 district) were scored in the first half and the Lady Tigers offense wasted little time in taking a 1-0 lead over Bowie (8-6-2 overall; 5-4-1 district) at the 36:40 mark when Adley Accetta passed the ball to a ready and waiting Lily Ruff, who scored with a shot off her left foot. The two paired up again, but this time it was Accetta scoring the goal at the 20:25 mark and Ruff credited with the assist.
The 2-1 lead would hold up for more than 23 minutes after Bowie’s only score as Pittman (47 saves on the season) and the Lady Tigers defense kept the Bulldogs from tying the game and a possible overtime. Ruff leads the team in goals with eight, followed by Bailey Stephenson with seven and Accetta with five.
Dripping Springs will travel to Westlake High School Tuesday, March 11, for a 7:45 p.m. start.
