WIMBERLEY — Nonprofit organization projectART in Wimberley has selected Kristy Peloquin to lead the organization as its inaugural executive director. Peloquin began her tenure July 14.
The organization has operated solely with volunteer board members and occasional part-time staff. With Peloquin as executive director, the organization aims to implement its three-year strategic plan.
The nonprofit organization is dedicated to supporting art education and providing creative opportunities for area youth. According to a news release, projectART has donated $26,000 in art supplies and equipment to Wimberley schools under an initiative called projectARTROOM since the organization’s inception in 2019. In 2023, projectART opened ARTSPACE, a contemporary art gallery and mixed-use education space, in the historic Lowry House in Wimberley, originally built in 1880.
With the gallery and new leadership, initiatives, such as projectMENTOR — which pairs middle and high-school students with local artists for a semester-long mentorship that culminates in a professional-level art exhibition — and projectGALLERY — which brings fourth-grade classes into ARTSPACE to learn about contemporary art and the inner workings of an art gallery — can flourish.
As stated in the news release, Peloquin has nearly a decade of nonprofit experience and community service. She co-created a therapeutic creative writing program for a nonprofit serving those suffering through grief and loss. She went on to join Pop-Up Birthday, a nonprofit serving children in foster care, and became the organization’s inaugural executive director. She also engaged her love for storytelling and all things Texan by serving as development manager for a statewide historic preservation organization, where she directed an internship program that helped students from underrepresented cultural backgrounds access career-enhancing internships.
With Peloquin’s experience, projectART hopes to expand the organization's initiatives and unite the community through art.
