DRIPPING SPRINGS — On Friday, Sept. 12, the Dripping Springs Tigers football team hosted the Harker Heights High School Knights in a non-district game before a near capacity home crowd, which ended in a Tiger win of 31-26.
Quarterback Chase Ames was 18 of 31 passes for 218 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions, while Jaceton Gotta also had 16 rushes for 45 yards and two touchdowns; quarterback Mateo Perez contributed with 45 yards on eight carries and 16 yards passing and Cooper Reid had seven receptions for 67 yards and one touchdown. The offense plays were distributed well, and the Tigers had a total of 99 rushing yards and 234 receiving yards.
In the second half of the game, the Knights' offense improved and scored a touchdown and a field goal with the score of Tigers 28, Knights 26. With four minutes remaining in the game, Tiger kicker Ian French kicked a field goal and the score was Tigers 31, Knights 26. After the Tiger kickoff, the Knights were marching down the field and quarterback Hudson Humble threw an interception that was picked off by Tiger Gage De Los Santos and ended the late game comeback attempt by the Knights.
After the game, Tiger head coach Galen Zimmerman said the team played well, but experienced a bit of adversity, some of which was self-inflicted, but they played a tough Harker Heights team. They will enjoy this win, look at film and get ready for the Jags on Thursday, he continued.
The Tigers will next travel to the Bob Shelton Stadium Thursday, Sept. 18, to take on the Johnson High School Jaguars (1-2 overall) in their last non-district game.
