DRIPPING SPRINGS — The city of Dripping Springs is launching its second round of Stars of Dripping Springs, a city-wide art initiative featuring star sculptures.
Organized by the city, Destination Dripping Springs and the Dripping Springs Art League, this project is a vibrant public art effort that invites local artists to share their talents, while also highlighting the city’s International Dark Sky Community designation, stated a city news release.
“We are excited to unveil the next round of stars, designed by local artists, that will turn our parks and other areas of our city into an outdoor art gallery and bring awareness to the beautiful night sky that the Hill Country is famous for,” said Pam King, tourism manager for the Visitors Bureau. “Through these star sculptures, our goal is to not only showcase the immense talent of our local artists, but also to inspire a sense of awe and connection among residents and visitors alike.”
The Stars of Dripping Springs public art project began in 2024 with the unveiling of six star sculptures along historic Mercer Street. This year, 10 new stars will be added, each telling a unique story tied to themes such as the night sky, Dripping Springs culture, Texas history, music and film and the natural beauty of the Hill Country, the release continued.
The Dripping Springs Art League partners with the city to select the designs and artists for the display. This year, there were 47 entries by 25 artists, who each were able to submit up to five designs.
“The Stars of Dripping Springs project reflects exactly what our art community is all about — creativity, storytelling and a deep connection to this place we call home,” said Jennifer Friedman of the Dripping Springs Art League. “We are grateful for our partnership with the city and thrilled that this project gives artists a chance to shine, while also enriching the lives of everyone who experiences these sculptures.”
To make the project happen, the city sought partnerships from businesses and organizations that share a commitment to art, culture and community enrichment. Sponsors for the 2025 round include H-E-B, Flying Fish Swim Academy, Ally Medical and Deep Eddy Vodka Tasting Room.
“We are so thankful for the support of our sponsors,” said King. “Their generosity makes it possible for us to expand this project, and their partnership underscores how much our community values art and creativity.”
This year’s stars will be officially unveiled from 6-7 p.m. Oct. 8 at Dripping Springs Ranch Park in the large event room, where each artist will share the inspiration behind their design. Following the unveiling, the stars will be placed at city parks and sponsoring businesses for the public to enjoy.
