Dripping Springs Tigers outlast Bowie Bulldogs

DRIPPING SPRINGS  — The Dripping Springs High School Tigers football team came into the Oct. 10 contest against the Bowie High School Bulldogs with a 6-0 record and now, they remain undefeated after a 28-21 win.

The Tigers scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and the Bulldogs scored two touchdowns in the second quarter. The half ended with the score Tigers 14, Bulldogs 14.

In the third quarter, the Bulldogs scored first and took a 21 to 14 lead. However, the Tigers were able to battle back and scored, tying the game at 21-21 at the end of the third quarter.

Then, in the fourth quarter, the Tigers scored another touchdown and their defense stepped up, keeping the Bulldogs out of the end zone.

Offense standouts for the Tigers were Lawson Attaway as the offensive catalyst, with 25 carries for 128 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Chase Ames had 26 rushing yards, 131 passing yards and one touchdown. Finally, Harrison Rohrer contributed with four receptions for 54 yards.

Following the game, head coach Galen Zimmerman, said he is very glad his kids fought through some adversity and were able to come out on top. He had mentioned some of the adversity was "self-inflicted," but they can’t do that against top programs, such as Bowie.

The Tigers are now 7-0 and will host the undefeated Lake Travis High School Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17.

During the pre-game festivities in the Oct. 10 home game, the Dripping Springs High School football players and cheerleaders from the Class of 1975, as well as the 1975 head football coach Carl Waits, were presented and honored by the community and current students.
