SAN ANTONIO  — On Saturday, Dec. 6, the Dripping Springs High School Tigers football team traveled to the Alamodome in San Antonio to take on the Vandegrift High School Vipers in the University Scholastic League (UIL) 6A Division 2 Region IV finals. The team’s playoff run ended with a 27-20 loss.

Before the game, at mid-field, the Vipers won the coin toss and deferred until the second half, so the Tigers received the initial kickoff and started on the Vipers 45-yard line.

The Tigers marched down the field and the referee threw a flag to what appeared to be a defensive pass interference. However, the referee picked up the flag with no penalty assessed. Shortly thereafter, the Tigers had a false start and were unable to make the first down.

On fourth down, Tigers’ kicker Ian French was called in and he made a 40-yard field goal.

The Vipers scored a touchdown on the next offensive possession, but were unable to make the point after touchdown. The first quarter ended with the score Tigers 3, Vipers 6.

In the second quarter, the Vipers scored two more touchdowns and the Tigers were only able to score another field goal. At halftime, the score stood at Tigers 6, Vipers 20.

At the start of the third quarter, the Tigers scored a touchdown on a pass from quarterback Chase Ames to Merrik Bloomgren. The Tigers defense held the Vipers scoreless and at the end of the third quarter, the score was Tigers 13, Vipers 20.

During the fourth quarter, the Vipers added another touchdown. The Tigers countered with a 48-yard pass from Ames to James Montgomery, but time ran out and the final score was Vipers 27, Tigers 20.
