The Dripping Springs High School Lady Tigers soccer team earned entrance to the Regional Finals round of playoffs, following an extended game at Memorial Stadium in Victoria against the Harlingen High School Cardinals Friday, March 27. At the end of regulation play, the game was tied 1-1. Two scoreless overtime periods led to a final penalty kickoff, with sophomore Bailey Stephenson putting the game-winning shot in the back of the net.
“Oh man, we had a lot of emotions going into that penalty kickoff,” said head coach Bailee Perrin after the game. “We practice it a lot, but I was telling them it's hard to recreate that feeling, that emotion. When you put so much into not only 80 minutes of soccer, but an additional 20 minutes — so 100 minutes total — and then, it's still tied and you have to go to player kickoffs. You never want it to come down to that, but ultimately, I’m glad we came out on top.”
The Lady Tigers will face Vandegrift High School for the Regional Finals at press time Tuesday, March 31. The winner of that game will advance to the State Semifinals, to be held April 2-4, and face the winner of the Kingwood High School versus Katy Tompkins High School game.
