Starkey C. “Butch” Grizzle

Starkey C. Grizzle, affectionately known as “Butch,” passed away peacefully at his home in Mountain City on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the age of 82.

Born on August 2, 1943, Butch was a lifelong Texan who valued hard work, honesty, and family above all else. He attended Buda schools from first grade through graduation, earning his diploma in 1961 as part of a close-knit class of just 23 students. The friendships he formed during those years lasted a lifetime.

A retired sheet metal worker, Butch was known for his strong work ethic, steadfast character, and determination. He believed in keeping his word and facing life’s challenges with grit and resilience. Though stubborn at times, those who knew him best admired his strength, dependability, and unwavering commitment to those he loved.

Nothing brought Butch greater pride than his family. He cherished his role as husband, father, and grandfather. He carried the loss of his son, Michael, four years ago deeply in his heart and missed him every day.

Butch is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Sandra Grizzle; his son, Randal Grizzle and wife Sara; his grandsons, Grant and Garison Grizzle; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Shirley Schwartz; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sammy and Phyllis Mashburn; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Starkey and Alma Rose Grizzle; his son, Michael Grizzle; and his parents-in-law, Sam and Cody Mashburn.

A memorial celebration honoring Butch’s life will be held on Sunday, June 14, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Ruby Ranch Lodge, 292 Bartlett Drive, Buda, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice or that you perform a random act of kindness in memory of Butch Grizzle.

His strength, loyalty, and love for family will be remembered always by those fortunate enough to have known him.
