SAN MARCOS — As the eighth anniversary of the Iconic Village fire approaches, the San Marcos Fire Marshal's Office is renewing its appeal to the public for information that could help investigators close the investigation.

In the early morning hours of July 20, 2018, a fire at the Iconic Village apartment complex claimed the lives of the following five young adults: Dru Estes, 20, of San Antonio; Belinda Moats, 21, of Big Wells; Haley Michele Frizzell, 19, of San Angelo; David Angel Ortiz, 21, of Pasadena; and James Phillip Miranda, 23, of Mount Pleasant.

Several others were also injured and more than 200 residents were displaced. The fire was later determined to have been intentionally set and the investigation remains active.

A dedicated tip line has been established to make it easier for the public to share information.

Anyone with information related to the fire is encouraged to call 512-393-7388. Callers are asked to report anything they know, including things they may have seen or heard in the days surrounding the fire, conversations they may have had or any other information that could assist investigators.

“We believe someone knows something that can help,” said San Marcos Fire Marshal Jonathan Henderson. “Even small details or conversations that may have seemed insignificant at the time could prove valuable today.”

"Eight years have passed, but our commitment to finding answers has not changed," Henderson continued. "We remain dedicated to seeking justice for the victims, their families, the survivors and everyone whose lives were forever changed by this tragedy. Someone knows something and we are asking them to come forward."

The investigation remains ongoing and no additional details are being released at this time.
