A production of the Wimberley Players intends to pull on the audience’s heartstrings with a play about a woman who received heart transplant that encourages the audience to register as organ donors with on-site organ donor registry.
The Wimberley Players will be presenting "The Tin Woman" by Sean Grennan. This show focuses on the life of a woman who has just received a heart transplant as she navigates her new life. Along the way, she meets the family of her organ donor and brings them healing.
The first showing will debut on National Donor day, Feb. 14, and will continue every weekend through March 8. Shows on Friday and Saturday begin at 7:30 p.m. However, on Sunday the show begins at 2:30 p.m.
After the play, audience members will have the opportunity to register as organ donors and hear from a panel of transplant survivors.
Wimberley Players Executive Director Simone Corprew said that after reading scripts, the group loved “The Tin Woman,” but they wanted to go beyond the play and use their platform to make an impact.
“We started doing a lot of research and found that even though most people are in favor of organ donations, only half of all Americans are actually registered. We decided that we this was a way to educate people and hopefully help save some lives,” Corprew said.
