On Wednesday night, Buda City Council said their goodbyes to Mayor George Haehn and Councilwoman Remy Fallon.
“I really appreciate all the effort everybody has provided to this council,” Haehn addressed the council. “The advice, the friendship and the association, we’ve all been there done that different times, different places and we’ve always pulled it together and made it work. I cannot say enough about the staff and the members of this council and the service that you give to the city of Buda. …I’ll never ever forget the opportunity and honor it has been to serve this city.”
Haehn ended his position on an appreciative note and expressed his sentiments to individual council members.
Fallon had an emotional end to her term, and like her usual manner, she kept her speech short.
“Let me leave on a happy note and a funny note,” Fallon addressed the council. “I don’t know who elected me; I think it’s great I’ve been up here 3 years. I was using the men’s bathroom for the longest time back there when I was the only woman on the dais.”
Although Fallon reminisced on a humorous memory which got council laughing, she ended her speech with some tears.
“Thank you so much,” Fallon said. “This has been a blessing. Again, I don’t know how I did it, I’m 30 years old, I’m not qualified for this, but thank you so much.”
Next time the council returns, Lee Urbanovsky will be the mayor, who ran unopposed. From election night results, Matt Smith will take on the Position 1 at-Large with nearly 55% of the votes to him. Monica Davidson will be the new member for Position 2 at-Large, leading with 60% votes.
