A Hays County jury sentenced a Kyle man to 70 years in prison after he was convicted of impregnating a pre-teen girl in 2012.

Jose Alejandro-Najarro, 55, was convicted based on a 2015 incident at his Kyle home.

According to a press release, Alejandro-Najarro had been accused of having sexual intercourse in 2015 with a 12-year-old girl, which he denied.

The Hays Free Press reported Alejandro-Najarro had allegedly asked the pre-teen to come over to his house and fix his television when the incident occurred, according to an arrest affidavit.

DNA testing, however, showed Alejandro-Najarro was the father of the pre-teen’s child, to the “exclusion of over 99 percent of the population,” per the release.

Hays County District Attorney Wes May lauded his staff for their work on the case, as well as the Hays County Sheriff’s Office and Hays CISD and medical officials.

“The loss of innocence suffered by a child who is made to endure what this defendant did is incalculably tragic,” Mau said. “Alejandro-Najarro took advantage of a child’s trust, and robbed her of choices that most of us take for granted as we grow from children to men and women. No sentence can ever return that to her. The jury clearly understood that.”
