A Del Valle man is facing a charge of arson in connection with a fire that destroyed a vehicle registered to his wife.

Ernest Tamayo Jr., 34, was charged with the second-degree felony offense on Nov. 29. He was still in Hays County Jail on Tuesday under a bond of $20,000.

According to the Buda Police Department, officers were called out at approximately 4:24 p.m. on Nov. 29 to the Comfort Inn Suites in Buda to assist with a fire call.

On arrival they found a Dodge Ram pickup fully engulfed in flame.

Witnesses and security video led to the arrest of Tamayo.

Second degree felonies are punishable by a prison sentence from 2 to 20 years with a fine of up to $10,000.

The case will next go to the Hays County Grand Jury.
