The Dripping Springs High golf team placed 10th at the UIL State Golf Tournament held at Georgetown’s White Wing Golf Club on May 20-21.Dripping Springs closed the first day of tournament play in 11th place. The Tigers, along with all other competitors on the course, dealt with blustery winds that impacted play. On May 21, the Tigers lowered their score by a combined ten strokes to jump into the 10th place spot out of 12 competing programs. The four lowest scores on the day count toward the team total.
Senior Jake Sitterle led the team with a two-day total of 156 strokes (79 and 77) to tie for 36th place. Also counting toward the team score were freshman Tanner Wardlaw who shot 162 (83 and 79) to finish tied for 49th place, sophomore Sam Sewell who shot 165 (85 and 80) and sophomore Jake Sewell who shot 169 (84 and 85). Freshman Luke Ezell also competed for the Tigers, shooting 183 (97 and 86).
Four of the five Tigers improved their scores on Day 2 from Day 1, despite having to deal with a rain delay that pushed back tee times.
The Tigers completed their second consecutive trip to state. Dripping Springs finished in 9th place overall at the 2018 UIL state tournament.
Dripping Springs’ golf team closed 2019 with the 26-5A district title and a second place finish at the 5A, Region IV tournament.
