A new leader will be taking the reins of the Hays County Food Bank, according to the board of directors, as Eleanor Owen-Oshan has been chosen to fill the position of Executive Director, effective July 1, 2019

Owen-Oshan has worked at HCFB since September 2017. Prior to this promotion, she served as Programs Director and Development and Events Coordinator with the food bank. She has over 20 years of leadership experience in the private sector.

“Eleanor possesses a deep understanding of and commitment to our mission. She brings a wealth of knowledge about the organization and the communities we serve, and she will be a strong asset as we work to advance Board priorities and create a well-nourished community,” said Jamie Lee Case, HCFB President. “It’s been a joy to see her grow her career over the years, and we are thrilled to have her lead this organization.”

Currently, her community involvement includes serving on the San Marcos Human Services Advisory Board, The Village Board of Directors, and CASA Centex as a Court Appointed Special Advocate representative for Central Texas.

Owen-Oshan is a long-time resident of San Marcos and has watched her city and county grow. The growing population, cuts to SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and increased cost of living have all led to an even greater need for food assistance, but Owen-Oshan says she is ready to take on the challenge with her team.

Owen-Oshan will succeed Denise Blok, who accepted the Chief Operations Officer position with Central Texas Food Bank in February.

In 2018, Hays County Food Bank and its 20+ partner agencies distributed more than 900,000 pounds of food to food insecure households. On average, 750 - 900 households were provided food assistance each week. These residents were senior citizens, children, and many others facing economic challenges.

“Food insecurity” refers to the availability of food and one’s access to it.  Hays County Food Bank is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the public to perform its mission.
