City of Kyle water customers are being asked to refrain from "unnecessary" usage Tuesday due to an issue at Lake Dunlap in the New Braunfels area.

According to officials, Kyle Public Works received notification from the Guadalupe Blanco River Authority (GBRA), one of the city's water suppliers, requesting Kyle water customers stop "any unnecessary water usage." That extends to outdoor watering, car washing and pool refilling.

GBRA officials Tuesday reported a "spill-gate failure" at Lake Dunlap just before 8 a.m. Kyle officials said the GBRA is "shutting down" due to issues at Lake Dunlap.

It is unknown at this time how long the shutdown will last.
