Matilda: The Musical at HCISD performing arts center


The Hays CISD Performing Arts Center will be featuring Matilda: The Musical from June 23 to June 25. There will be four showings, with the June 23 and 24 performances starting at 7 p.m. and June 25 having two, with one at 2 p.m. and one at 7 p.m. The musical will feature students from grades 4 through 12. Tickets start at $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under.  


Buda Arts in the Park kicks off


As summer begins, Buda is starting up its Arts in the Park event series. Every Friday in June and July, Buda will be hosting live entertainment and movies in the city park at 7 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket and anything else they might need to enjoy an evening outside. The next event will be live music from Grammy-award winning Latin-funk orchestra group Grupo Fantasma on June 24. 


Dripping Springs Pride Festival


Get ready to be yourself at the Pride ‘22 Festival and Rodeo at Dripping Springs. Organized by the nonprofit group Pride of Dripping Springs and featuring the Texas Gay Rodeo Association, the festival will be held on June 25 at the Dripping Springs Ranch Park and Event center, starting at12 p.m. and ending at 11 p.m. Family friendly events will be held until 7 p.m.; afterwards, the festival will be 18 and up only. Festivities will include a drag story time, music, vendors and a drag show later in the evening. 


July 4 festivities around the county


Cities and groups across Hays County will be hosting Fourth of July celebrations next month. Buda will be holding its annual Red, White and Buda celebration from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Buda Amphitheater and City Park and Kyle will be lighting up the sky with a firework show at sundown (approximately 9:30 p.m.) from the Plum Creek Golf Course; more information can be found at www.cityofkyle.com/recreation/kyles-independence-day-fireworks-show. In addition, Wimberley will be holding an Independence Day parade at 10 a.m.


Patriotic concert in Wimberley


The Wimberley Community Chorus and Hill Country Community Band are coming back together for the first time since 2019 for the 10th Annual Hometown Patriotic Concert on July 4 at 3 p.m. at Wimberley First Baptist Church.


Favorite patriotic songs celebrating the birth and history of our nation will include “America the Beautiful,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “God Bless America,” and “Stars and Stripes Forever.” “Hymn to the Fallen” by John Williams from Saving Private Ryan will be accompanied by a powerful video presentation honoring those that gave everything for us. During “Armed Forces Salute,” military branch flags will be presented by a color guard while veterans of those branches will be invited to stand and be honored.


Joe Dollard, a 20-year member of the U.S. Navy Band, will be featured as a euphonium soloist in “The Yellow Rose of Texas Variations.” The Wimberley Community Chorus will be directed by Ed Snouffer, with his wife, Andrea, accompanying the Chorus on piano. The Hill Country Community Band will be directed by Dr. Manuel Arambula.
