Billies blitz Texans 46-20

A 24-point second half blitz carried the Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies to a 46-20 win over the Wimberley Texans Friday at Texan Stadium.

At the center of Wimberley’s woes was Billies’ senior quarterback Brant Bowers, who went 12 of 21 for 235 yards and a touchdown passing, while also amassing 57 yards on 10 carries and three scores on the ground.

The Texans also struggled to halt Billies’ junior wide receiver Jarrett Beard who caught four passes for 141 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Wimberley will go on the road to play private school powerhouse Regents Friday at 7:30 p.m. Following an Oct. 6 bye week, the Texans open district play Oct. 12 at home against Austin Eastside Memorial.

Meanwhile, Wimberley countered with quarterback Cooper McCollum, who accounted for all three Texan touchdowns in the contest. McCollum went 13 of 26 for 170 yards and two interceptions passing, while rushing for 52 yards and a trio of touchdowns.

Fredericksburg (3-1) held a 15-14 second quarter lead when Bowers completed a 55-yard touchdown pass to Beard three minutes before intermission. A successful two point conversion gave Fredericksburg a 22-14 lead at halftime.

The Billies’ lead grew to 30-14 in the third frame before the Texans responded. A 24-yard touchdown run by McColllum pulled the Texans within ten points at 30-20 following a missed two-point conversion.

Fredericksburg’s defense held firm and kept Wimberley scoreless in the final 21 minutes of the contest.

In turn, the Billies tallied 16 unanswered points to pull away from the Texans.

Texans senior wide receiver Caleb Cervenka led the team with four catches for 63 yards, while senior Guy Kyprous rushed for a team-high 59 yards.
