[dropcap]F[/dropcap]or the first time ever, Dripping Springs ISD sent a team to the Special Olympics of Central Texas area track meet, which was held May 5-6 at Bible Stadium in Leander ISD.
Eight students in grades 6 to 11 represented Dripping Springs, and several placed in their respective events including four Gold Medals.
Sophomore Miguel Standridge was the top Tiger finisher, earning two Gold Medals, in both the 400 Meters and the Javelin (400 grams).
Two other DSISD students earned Gold Medals. Sophomore David Pringle earned a Gold Medal in the Softball Throw and a Bronze Medal in the 25-Meter Walk. Eighth-grader Tony Touve placed in two events, earning a Gold Medal in the Javelin (300 grams) and finishing fourth in the 200 Meters.
Three other students finished third in their events to earn Bronze Medals. Sixth-grader Trinity Turner received a Bronze Medal in the Softball Throw and also placed fifth in the 100-Meter Run. Sixth-grader Alyssa Howes earned a Bronze Medal in the 25-Meter Walk and finished fourth in the Softball Throw.
Sophomore Marisa Herrera earned a Bronze Medal in the Javelin and was fourth in the 100 Meters.
Junior Brant Higginson was fifth in the Javelin Throw and seventh in the 200-Meter Run.
More than 900 total athletes competed in the event.
