Dripping Springs' pitcher Haiden Anderson had no problem in the circle getting the win while fighting the wind, with gusts up to 16 mph last Friday night against Kerrville Tivy. “My curve ball is off speed and starts on the plate but moves out a bit,” Anderson said, after the game about the wind, “so sometimes I’ll struggle a bit if it moves out too far.”
Sophomore pitcher Haiden Anderson stays focused while delivering a pitch last Friday night when the Lady Tigers faced visiting district rival Kerrville Tivy.
Anderson, a sophomore, pitched a complete game and shut out Tivy through six innings, giving up 4 hits and the lone Tivy run in the top of the seventh inning, for a 5-1 win in the final home game of the regular season. “Shut out? A win is a win and what’s important,” Anderson said.
Dripping Springs, the 5A Region IV District 26 winner, will face either Georgetown East View or Leander Glenn in a district playoff game, likely Friday, April 29 but at press time, details to be determined.
Senior Haley Kanetzky had a pair of hits including a triple, but junior Jo Hudgeons led the offense with 4 of the 11 total hits for the Lady Tigers. In seven innings pitching, Anderson, 12-5, struck out 7 Tivy batters and relied on her defense. “I get flyouts and groundouts, and with the defense behind me, we come together to work well.”
In 106 innings, Anderson has a 1.39 ERA and has 97 strikeouts. One way she gets those is a wicked change-up that must have looked like a beach ball to Tivy batters and was hard not to take a whack at. “It’s my go to pitch,” Anderson said.
