A stolen forklift was the instrument of choice in an unsuccessful attempt by suspects to thieve an automated teller machine (ATM) from a Buda area bank early Wednesday. Buda Police continues to investigate the crime.
According to a city of Buda press release, Buda Police officers responded to an alarm call at the FIrst State Bank Central Texas around 3:50 a.m. When they arrived, officers located an abandoned U-Haul truck with the engine still running behind the bank building. They also located a Skytrak Loader forklift that had been used in attempt to steal an ATM, but was wedged in the drive-thru.
The U-Haul was stolen from Dollar Tile in Buda, located along Interstate 35, and the forklift was stolen from the city's new municipal building site off of Main Street, according to the release.
Buda Police do not believe the suspects were able to get away with any money from the ATM; the suspects left the scene before officers arrived. Brittany Tate, Buda Police public information officer, said officers are still uncertain how many suspects were involved in the crime.
Officials say the incident remains an active investigation and officers are gathering information and surveillance footage.
