Early offense propelled the Dripping Springs Tigers to a 59-29 bidistrict playoff win over the LBJ Jaguars at the Kelley Reeves Athletic Complex in Round Rock Friday.
The first half was all Dripping Springs as the Tigers (11-0) jumped out to an early 21-7 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
Senior Trevor Greenman threw for two touchdowns and ran for one score as well.
The second quarter was no different for the Tigers. A Jaguar touchdown cut Dripping Springs’ lead to 21-13, but a 63-yard touchdown pass from Greenman to wide receiver Johnny Hoyle erased that. The Jaguars muffed the ensuing kickoff, allowing the Tigers to score again.
The offensive onslaught didn’t stop there. Greenman hit junior wide receiver Parker Alford in stride for a 65-yard touchdown pass, which was then followed by an 82-yard interception return for a touchdown by senior Reed Beverly. Dripping Springs held a 49-13 lead at halftime.
The Tigers kept the momentum going in the second half by scoring right out of the gate to go up 56-13.
Dripping Springs followed with a 32-yard field goal from Nathan Koch to score its last points of the game.
The Jaguars (7-4) turned to younger players and sophomore wide receiver David Jones made a fantastic one handed touchdown catch to cut the Tiger lead down to 59-21.
The 4th quarter was relatively quiet with LBJ notching one touchdown to close the scoring.
Dripping Springs finished with 545 total yards of offense, while the defense forced 7 turnovers, five of those were interceptions.
Dripping Springs advances to play the winner of Richmond Foster or San Antonio Burbank at Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan Nov. 25 at 1:30 p.m.
