PEC hosts 2nd annual Camp Save-a-Watt Solar Car Derby
— For the second year in a row, Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) hosted campers and parents from across the cooperative’s coverage area on June 21 for a day of free learning and fun at the coop’s headquarters in Johnson City, according to a news release. More than 150 people, including 70 campers in kindergarten through third grade, attended PEC’s Camp Save-a-Watt Solar Car Derby. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about solar energy from PEC experts, as well as build and race solar cars.

Hays County Commissioners Court declares July Park and Recreation Month
— The Hays County Parks Department is being recognized for its contributions to the county’s health and wellness. During its June 20 meeting, the commissioners court passed a proclamation recognizing parks and recreation as an integral part of the community and declaring July as Park and Recreation Month, according to a news release.
