By Megan Navarro HAYS COUNTY — A local mountain biking team — composed of students, parents and adult volunteers — is gearing up to have a fundraiser early next year.

For Hays CISD band director Joey Lucita, music is his favorite thing, both listening to it and taking part in creating it. Nothing brings him more happiness than watching his band students perform. From the daily grind practices to state competitions, this is his passion.

Water polo has only recently become a sport available for the students of Hays CISD, with 2022-23 being the first season. However, it is quickly becoming a known and loved sport within the student body as the players and coaches are putting passion and energy into the game and into promoting it to the students and fans. With this, in addition to high school football, basketball and baseball stars, schools are now starting to have stars in aquatic sports. A prime example is Alissa Villarreal of Lehman High School.

“Teamwork makes the dream work” is a quote the Hays High School band took to heart this season.

Twenty-five students represented Hays CISD across seven different events at the Boerne-Champion TFA and NIETOC Qualifying Tournament last month.

BUDA — With a 7-0 vote, the Hays CISD Board of Trustees approved multiple projects at its Oct. 23 meeting.

KYLE — Kyle City Council proclaimed October as Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness Month at its Oct. 17 meeting.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Hays CISD student that occurred last week.
