Cloelia Christine (Cody) Mashburn, age 86, of Hudson Bend, formerly of Buda, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008, eighteen days after being diagnosed with Lymphoma. She was born in Brownwood, Texas, on August 25, 1921, to Richard and Grace Black. She was the oldest of five children born to this union and out lived her two brothers and two sisters.
She married Samuel Lloyd (Sam) Mashburn on February 11, 1939. He was the one who named her “Cody” since he could not pronounce her real name nor remember it. They were together for 41 years before his death in 1980. They had three children, Sandra, Shirley and Sammy.
Cody was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, always putting her family first. Her entire life revolved around her selfless love for her family. She was a very independent woman and lived by herself, taking care of house and yard until just a few months ago.
She is survived by daughter, Sandra Grizzle and husband, Butch of Buda; daughter, Shirley Schwartz and husband, Lloyd of Austin and son, Sammy (Sam) Mashburn and wife, Phyllis, of Greenbrier, Arkansas. She was “Nanny” to seven grandchildren, Shorty Schwartz and wife, Cheryl of Hutto; Scott Schwartz and wife Jeri of Round Rock; Michael Grizzle and wife, DeAndra of Kerrville; Nelan Schwartz and wife, Silke of Austin; Randal Grizzle and wife, Sara of Buda; Courtney Cooner and husband, Gregg of Wichita Falls, Mark Mashburn and wife, Becky of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two step grandchildren, Jeff Sutherland and wife Tricia of Celina and Julie Cantu of Flower Mound; eight great-grandchilren, Cody, Reagan, Katie, Grant, Garison, Haylee, Charlsie and Marley; eight step-great-grandchildren, including Richard, Jennifer, Calvin and Jasper and two step great-great grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation at Harrell Funeral Home Tuesday, July 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services Wednesday, July 16, at Buda United Methodist Church, with burial following at Live Oak Cemetery.
