News release: Hays Surgery Center to be first out-patient center in Kyle
A new out-patient surgery center will open its doors this fall in Kyle, Texas. Hays Surgery Center will feature 5 operating rooms in nearly 13,000 square feet of medical office space. The center has already lined up commitments from a number of area doctors anxious to be able to perform procedures on patients that are presently forced to travel more than 20 miles up I-35 for such services.
Hays Surgery Center will handle a variety of operations, including: general orthopedics hand procedures, urology, gynecology, general surgery, weight-loss surgery, spine and pain-management procedures and many more.
The center will be owned by local area surgeons in partnership with Austin-based Arise Healthcare, an owner manager and developer of health care facilities. Hays Surgery Center marks Arise’s sixteenth project in the state of Texas and first project in Hays County. It will be the first out-patient center in Kyle, a suburb to the south of Austin.
“This center will bring a myriad of out-patient procedures to Hays County residents so they can receive care on their home turf,” says Jared Leger, RN CPSC, CEO and managing partner of Arise Healthcare. “We opened our doors with a similar facility about a year ago in Cedar Park and have received an absolutely phenomenal reception. We have similar high hopes for our Kyle project.”
In its first year, Cedar Park Surgery Center attracted more than 40 of the area’s leading surgeons who have primarily performed procedures on residents that live within a 20-mile radius from the center. Cedar Park Surgery Center has also been credited with increasing both medical and non-medical economic activity Cedar Park, a goal anticipated for their Hays project as well.
Hays Surgery Center has signed a long-term lease to become a tenant in Kyle Crossing Medical Center, a 42,000-square-foot, $10 million medical office space project under development by Onair Development. The building, presently under construction, sits on 3.5 acres off the southeast corner of I-35 and Kyle Crossing – across from the city’s only hospital, Seton Medical Center Hays.
In addition to the new surgery center, other tenants slated to join in the building include: Austin Pain Associates, Gilcrease Medical Group, The Podiatry Group of South Texas, Strickland Physical Therapy and Kyle Crossing Imaging.
Ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), or “out-patient” surgery centers, perform medical procedures that typically do not require an overnight stay. They generally deliver services in a more cost-effective manner than hospitals, providing patients with up to 50 percent savings when compared with the same surgery at a hospital. Studies also consistently show ASCs have a much lower rate of infection than hospitals.
Today, more than 70 percent of surgeries in the United States are performed in the out-patient setting, according to the Texas Ambulatory Surgery Center Society. More than 1.3 million surgeries and procedures were performed in Texas ASCs from mid-2010 through mid-2011, according to a report by the Texas Department of State Health Services. An economic impact study conducted by TASCS found Texas ASCs had an estimated economic impact of $1.7 billion, employed more than 7,300 Texans and paid $424 million in taxes in 2009.
